Welfare services union calls off strike
Budapest, November 30 (MTI) – Public service trade union MKKSZ has called off a strike which was set to be held on December 5, in the wake of an agreement with government representatives.
Under the agreement, reached on Wednesday, average wages in the sector will be raised by 33 percent before January 1, 2018, Imre Nyitrai, deputy state secretary at the human resources ministry, told a press conference.
MKKSZ would not be able to achieve a higher wage hike through a strike, union head Erzsébet Boros said.
The union had sought to call attention to bad working conditions and low wages in the welfare sector, and demanded a 30 percent wage hike as of January 1 next year.
