Wizz Air plane unable to land in Debrecen due to extreme weather

A Wizz Air flight from London to Debrecen Airport was unable to land on Tuesday morning because of dense fog. After several unsuccessful attempts, the aircraft was safely redirected to Budapest Airport for safety reasons.

Local Hungarian news outlet haon.hu reported that the budget airline’s plane made multiple approaches to Debrecen but was forced to abandon each one due to poor visibility. According to data from Flightradar24, the flight took off smoothly at 6:13am and circled over Debrecen, hoping the fog would lift. When it did not, the pilots opted to divert to Budapest, where the aircraft landed at 10:26am.

The plane had been scheduled to depart from Debrecen at 10:15am, but that return flight was cancelled, leaving passengers stranded. Haon.hu did not provide details on how or when those passengers eventually returned to London.

Fog has also disrupted other flights in recent days. On Sunday, a Lufthansa service from Munich was diverted to Budapest due to fog over Debrecen. Unlike the Wizz Air flight, it did not attempt to land again, instead departing back to Munich from Budapest, with buses arranged to transport passengers to Debrecen.
