Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air has immediately suspended several of its Middle East services after Israel attacked Iran, disrupting travel plans for thousands of passengers across Europe.
According to Hungarian news outlet 444.hu, the airline has halted all flights to Israel and key Gulf destinations due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation. The decision affects routes to Tel Aviv, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Amman.
Flights grounded until at least 7 March
The suspension is in force until at least 7 March, the airline said in a statement. Wizz Air added that it is continuously monitoring developments with the support of external security experts and remains in close contact with local and international aviation, security and government authorities.
The company stressed that passenger, crew and aircraft safety remains its top priority. Travellers affected by cancellations are being contacted directly by customer service with information about rebooking options or refunds.
Regional disruption spreads beyond Hungary
The impact is not limited to Hungary. Reporting by Cyprus Mail shows that multiple airlines have cancelled flights between Cyprus and the Middle East following the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran.
Wizz Air’s cancellations also affected connections from Larnaca, including services to Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi. Arrival and departure boards showed multiple last-minute changes over the weekend.
Other carriers followed suit. Ryanair cancelled its route from Paphos to Amman, while Air Haifa scrapped flights linking Paphos with Haifa.
Some routes still operating
Despite widespread disruption, not all services have been suspended. Cyprus Airways continued check-in for flights to Dubai and Beirut, while Qatar Airways operated its inbound service from Doha as scheduled.
No official announcements had yet been made regarding operations by Emirates, Sundor, Arkia, or Israir on their routes between Cyprus and Israel.
Passengers advised to check before travelling
With airlines frequently reviewing their schedules, travellers heading to or from the Middle East are advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. Further cancellations or extensions to existing suspensions remain possible if the security situation worsens.
