Aiming for world’s top 100: Hungary to pour billions into university investments and training

The areas of higher education, vocational training and culture will see “unprecedented” developments worth as much as HUF 2,300 billion (EUR 5.8 billion) in the coming years, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation said on Friday.

The development of the newly reformed higher education will be supported by HUF 1,300 billion (EUR 3.3 billion) in university investments, “creating a secure foundation to further strengthen the success of the past years in the interest of Hungarian students, researchers and national sovereignty,” the statement said.

“Our aim is to have a Hungarian university among the world’s top 100 and several among the top 100 European institutions by 2030,” the statement said. The Centre for Molecular Fingerprinting (CMF), led by Nobel laureate physicist Ferenc Krausz and created in cooperation with several universities, will receive more than 75 billion forints in government support, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the “world-class” vocational training in Hungary will receive another 100 billion forints for further development, it said. Cultural projects will be allocated HUF 850 billion for development; projects will receive funding in Szatmárcseke, Kiskőrös, the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts, the Hungarian National Museum, the Hungarian Museum of Agriculture and several theatres, the statement said.
