Felix Yevtushenkov: technology for welfare

Financial technologies, AI, cloud storage services, smart homes – these are just a few of the directions in which one of Russia’s leading telecommunications companies, MTS, is investing.

As manager, Felix Yevtushenkov focuses on digital solutions, and this has enabled the company to undergo a fundamental transformation to an IT enterprise. Two years ago the company expressed an interest in developing innovation projects which had not yet succeeded in establishing a name in the market, but which were designed for rapid growth and creating synergies with new business directions.

Acting through a venture fund established in 2019, the telecommunications giant is supporting the following business projects:

TalkBank — a partnership between a bank and an IT company, it is the first virtual financial organization to operate without either branches or call centers.

KonnektU — a unified CDP platform which collects data on clients from a range of sources and aggregates it in a single profile.

The Academy of Change’s Ed-Tech service — an educational platform focusing on the LifeStyle segment, it is one of the five fastest growing on-line schools.

Airo — an electronic on-line assistant for the home, which offers cleaning, dry-cleaning, laundry and shoe and clothes repair services.

Kneron — a developer of microchips for smart devices.

Felix Yevtushenkov is convinced that investing in projects of this kind will allow the company to reach new levels in the field of collaborative innovation. The company provides startups with unparalleled access to its own digital ecosystem, thus helping them start scaling up their product for the mass market.

Last November the company increased the capital of its venture fund to two billion rubles. It has extended its key investment areas, with new projects in such sectors as smart homes, wellness and other segments in which innovative technologies are made available to a wide consumer base.

MTS also supports a range of projects, including education initiatives, which fall within the charitable foundation’s remit. Felix Yevtushenkov is highly focused on the development of the nonprofit organization and its social initiatives. In the past the fund also invested in the development of technologies to find people who have gone missing in remote areas.
