Young man fell from a theatre in Budapest – VIDEO

On Saturday, in the late evening hours, a young man climbed up the façade of a Budapest theatre and, unfortunately, fell.

People climbing up different buildings and then falling or maybe jumping off is not such a unique thing in Budapest. Less than three months ago, a man fell into the Danube from the Petőfi Bridge. It was not clear whether he simply fell over the security handrail or climbed voluntarily as a suicide attempt. The video shows that he did indeed climb and then fall over. He may have dropped his phone into the river and wanted to act quickly. Nevertheless, he was saved relatively fast by the Coast Guards, as they were just in the bridge’s proximity.

Suicide or accident? Hungarian falls into Danube

This time, our victim, unfortunately, suffered severe injuries. According to people sitting opposite the Vígszínház (Theatre of Comedy) in a restaurant,

a young man wearing a backpack held on with both hands to the façade of the theatre and was stepping very slowly along the wall.

He was standing on top of the upper frame/windowsill of a big window, from where he was trying to climb towards a bigger window.

A woman, who recorded the incident, told RTL Klub that they first spotted him sitting on top of the windowsill before starting the dangerous manoeuvre. He probably climbed off the roof, as the windows under him were closed.

When the police have arrived, they asked him to stop climbing, but the young man, who looked rather drunk, continued to do so, after taking a drag off his cigarette. When he got to the middle point of the distance between the two big windows, he had to stop as there is no windowsill-like surface to step on. According to the horrified bystanders looking at his actions,

he could only hold himself for one or two minutes before letting go of the baluster on the wall and falling among the paramedics. 

According to the young woman, the man had luck for not falling directly on the ground, as the paramedics were just about to fully inflate the huge security mattress used in an emergency like that. Still, they would have needed a minute or so to be completely prepared. Thus, the victim, unfortunately, suffered several serious injuries (head trauma, fractured femur and internal injuries). The paramedics stabilised him on the spot, but he was transported to the hospital in a critical condition.

There is no news on him since. According to hvg.hu, he did not work in the theatre, so for now, it is under investigation how he could get on the roof.
