Turizmusonline.hu writes that Asia’s biggest low cost airline, Air Asia plans on expanding in Europe and North America, for which they already received the necessary permissions from the Federal Aviation Administration. Their flights might even concern Budapest.
Kamarudin Meranun, the managing director of the company, said that, for instance, Hawaii is among the first new targets, but he didn’t want to mention further details.
He said that they were working on the reestablishment of the European flight network, which was abolished in 2012 due to the high kerosene prices and taxes. Back then, Air Asia specialised in long-distance flights that mostly flew from Kuala Lumpur to London. The airline already laid claim for the necessary permissions.
Previously, the managing director of subsidiary company Thai Air Asia, Tassapon Bijleveld said that the airline plannes to expand in Eastern Europe, and that they would launch discount flights from Thailand to Budapest, Prague and Warsaw. At the time of the statement, airportal.hu looked up Budapest Airport, who confirmed that they were negotiating with the company, but couldn’t share details.
