Kopint-Tarki lowers inflation forecast

Think-tank Kopint-Tárki in a forecast released on Wednesday lowered its projection for annual average inflation this year to 2.3 percent from 2.7 percent forecast in April.

Its expectation for economic growth this year was unchanged at 3.7 percent, but next year growth is forecast at 3.5 percent as opposed to the April projection of 3.2 percent.

The government targets growth of 4.1 percent this year and 4.3 percent in 2018.

Investment growth is expected to reach 17 percent this year before slowing to 7 percent next year, the think-tank said.

Export growth is projected at 8 percent for both 2017 and 2018, while imports are set to climb 9.2 percent this year and 9 percent next year, it added.

As we wrote before, consumer prices in Hungary grew by an annual 1.9 percent in June, down from 2.1 percent in May, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said on Tuesday.
