National Bank of Hungary office opening in New York
A new communication office of the MNB (National Bank of Hungary) opens soon in New York. It has received the last administrative permission from the American ministry of foreign affairs not long ago, as MNO.hu reported.
MNB’s international communication manager, Marcell Horváth, told Világgazdaság that they have studied the international practice before initiating the establishment of the new office. They have found out that everything can be solved with the help of modern digital technology and tools of telecommunication, but it does not mean that personal connection does not play a vitally important role in business anymore.
MNB was accused of sending their friends to nice places for good sums. In response, Marcell Horváth stated that the employees of these international offices are chosen by open competition with an excessive number of applicants, after multiple rounds of evaluation. MNB sticks to the idea of the same wage for the same work, so the employees of the different offices belong to the same category of payment. There are no exceptions, as Horváth claimed. In the meantime, the bank designed the extra payments due to the government regulation concerning the allowance packages. It is also applied in foreign affairs. These allowance packages include — besides the basic wages and the basic allowances of every MNB employee — the repayment of travelling back to Hungary from abroad once a year.
The representatives do not observe only the destination country’s financial, economical, social and political processes, but the whole region’s as well. MNB uses these observations to create guidelines, build connections and gather information.
Horváth added that the first two years of their operation was more about building rather than their professional activities. As he mentioned, the results of their work are difficult to put down in numbers.
MNB already has offices in Paris, Rome and Hamburg. As it was revealed last year, they have spent approximately 51,000 euros per month for operating their offices abroad.
