Direct flight from Budapest to New York reintroduced

Budapest Airport has been trying to reintroduce a direct flight between Budapest and New York, with the hopes of launching a flight to Los Angeles, as well. Haszon.hu reports that both efforts paid off, and from next year on, both flights will be available.

The Budapest-New York and Budapest-Los Angeles flights will start in the first half of 2018, both will be operated by a Polish national airline, the LOT. Passengers can enjoy their journey on the newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner aeroplanes. The Polish company has good chances in Hungary, as they ordered their personal Dreamliners (253 in total) years ago, but could not register it in Warsaw.

Previously, two other American airlines operated regular flights to the Hungarian capital, but with the termination of Malév in 2012, there were no more possibilities for transfer, so both Delta and American Airlines ended their flights.

Travelling by air is becoming easier and easier in Hungary. Just in the past one month, six new flights were either introduced or announced. In early June, Wizz Air launched a new flight between Budapest and Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, then the Ukraine International Airlines launched daily flights between Budapest and Kiev, from where you can transfer to Bangkok, Amman, Tehran, Almaty, Odessa, Lviv and Kharkiv. Mid-June, Wizz Air announced that next spring, a Stavanger, Norway – Budapest flight will be introduced, taking off on each Thursday and Sunday, along with the launching of a Basel, Switzerland – Budapest flight, available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. At the end of the month, at a Chinese-Hungarian meeting, representatives from both countries agreed on launching a Shanghai – Budapest flight next year. Finally, on Monday, July 3rd, TAP Portugal has relaunched the Lisbon – Budapest direct flight, which will be available seven times a week.
