New Hungarian bus design unveiled
A new multifuntional Hungarian developed bus has been unveiled in Ikarus’ Székesfehérvár plant. Minister of Defence István Simicskó annunced that the Hungarian Defense Forces buy one hundred of them.
The new bus called Currus Aries has been built on Volvo 8BR chassis and equipped with Volvo engine.
It has been developed by state owned Currus Ltd. in close collaboration with Ikarus Vehicle Technology company.
The design of the new multifunctional bus was justified by Euro VI emission standard that came into effect in 2014.
Gábor Széles, President of Ikarus, said
1.5-2 billion forints were injected in the company’s Székesfehérvár plant to finance the production of the new Currus Aries model.
Currently, the army has 134 buses with an average mileage of 200-300 thousand kilometers – their average age is close to 25 years. By replacing the ageing fleet with locally made top of the line models the Hungarian Defence Force well on its way to incrementally develop the armed forces capabilities according to the plan released earlier by the ministry of defence.
As we wrote before, the Hungarian Transport Museum has brought to Budapest the last model of the Ikarus 489 Polaris designed in Hungary and released from service in Britain, the museum told MTI on Friday.
