The intoxicating side of Budapest: 6+1 wine experiences to try

Change language:
Funzine.hu believes that wine rushes through the veins of everyone born on Hungarian soil: Hungarians just can’t live without wine. As the grape harvest is right around the corner, you might want to visit one of the following wine bars.
Apropó
The place found in the always bustling Király Street is an exciting example of the Hungarian wine palette. The rustic bar aims to popularise the wines of less known wineries along with Hungarian and international tapas, like duck “sausage” with beetroot at quince. Their unique selection includes wines from Eger, Villány, Pannonhalma, Tokaj and Szekszárd, but you can also taste Italian wines and French champagnes. The icing on the cake is the panorama of one of Budapest’s cosiest streets from the huge windows of Apropó.

Biodevega Vegetarian Restaurant and Café
The gathering place of vegetarians is found a few steps away from Kossuth Lajos Square, where guests can enjoy gluten, lactose and additive free meals made from organic ingredients. They serve dishes high in vitamins, minerals and fibre with good quality coffee, homemade syrups, fresh juices, craft beer and the best part: organic wines. You’re guaranteed to find something delicious even if you’re on a vegan or paleo diet.

Doblo Wine & Bar
Doblo opened ten years ago in the Jewish quarter as a wine specialty store, but it slowly grew into the N°1 wine bar of Hungary. There are several keys to their success: outstanding attentiveness, familiar atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent wine and pálinka tastings and live concerts. Their selection includes the products of the most famous Hungarian wineries, bio wines and also the delicacies of less known wineries. Doblo offers delicious meals as well. For instance, you might want to try the Caprese Deluxe plate with buffalo mozzarella, miniature parenica cheese, Balkan flat bread and pickles from Vecsés.

Lexo Bistro
Exceptionally delicious fish meals, plant-based creations for people on vegan and vegetarian diet, local craft beers and a wide selection of unique Hungarian wines characterises Lexo, found in the neighbourhood of Oktogon. The place sets a very high standard regarding quality: you can get to know new flavours on the three-course dinners, while sipping on incredible beverages.
