Foreign minister: Ghana among most dynamic nations in Africa
Ghana is one of the most dynamically growing countries in Africa, the continent that will be the most important source of global economic growth in the upcoming period, Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s foreign minister, said in Accra on Friday.
Szijjártó held talks with several members of the Ghanaian government over the past two days, including the ministers of foreign affairs, telecommunications and business development.
He reopened the Hungarian embassy in Accra, which was closed nearly thirty years ago, and opened a Ghana-Hungary business forum with three hundred participants.
Szijjártó said that thanks to Hungary’s strategy of opening to the south, exports to the region have grown by 29 percent. This is one reason that motivated the Hungarian government’s decision to reopen the embassy in Ghana and form the Ghana-Hungary business council, which is expected to boost Hungarian companies in the region, he added.
Several agreements on Hungarian-Ghanaian economic cooperation were signed during the minister’s visit. A Hungarian company is to build a water purifier in the African country, and others are to be involved in food industry investments, bridge construction and the construction of a power plant.
Hungary also doubles the number of grants offered to Ghanaian university students from 50 to 100, Szijjártó said.
