Survey: Budapest residents satisfied with current leadership

Fully 56 percent of Budapest residents say the city has developed well over the past 7 years and 55 percent had a favourable view of incumbent Fidesz mayor István Tarlós, according to the Nézőpont Institute.

Nézőpont conducted the survey with a representative sample of 1,000 Budapest residents between Oct. 17 and Nov. 12 last year.

Fully 53 percent of respondents said Tarlós performed better than his predecessor, Gábor Demszky of liberal Free Democrats, according to the survey released on Thursday.

In an election, Tarlós would have won 52 percent of the votes, over Párbeszéd’s Gergely Karácsony (26 percent) and Socialist Csaba Horváth (17 percent), Nézőpont said.

Altogether 49 percent of radical nationalist Jobbik respondents said they were satisfied with the way Budapest has developed over the past seven years. This was true of 36 percent of opposition LMP supporters and 28 percent of leftist voters (Socialists, Democratic Coalition, Együtt, Párbeszéd and Liberals).
