MSZP agrees with men’s retirement referendum initiative
Budapest (MTI) – The Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) supports a trade union referendum initiative to allow men to retire after 40 years of employment, lawmaker Nándor Gúr told a press conference in Budapest on Tuesday.
Should the referendum initiated by József Bodnár of the Railway Workers’ Union succeed, men would also be allowed to retire after 40 years of service, a benefit currently only granted to women.
Although the initiative primarily targets members of trade unions to collect the required 200,000 signatures, Gúr offered MSZP’s help as well.
The referendum initiative will force the government to “spend on people as well, not just on luxury projects”, he said.
