Hungary’s income from sports tourism to be quadrupled

Change language:
In recent years, more and more foreign people arrive to Budapest either as a spectator or participant of sports events. Think about FINA, the ’water world cup’ and some other internationally renowned running competitions. These not only draw sports tourists to Budapest from Europe but even from the farthest points of the world.
Globoport.hu wrote that tendencies show that the most rapidly developing segment of the capital’s tourism is sports tourism, which in a few years, thanks to the ongoing projects and investments can increase the income of such events to four times its original – as it turns out from the surveys of BDO.

Hungary was the home of two major sports events in recent years. Take for example 2017’s FINA Swimming World Cup which was held in July. The event was a huge success for Hungary and helped to develop a good assessment of our capabilities of organising sports events. Budapest also hosted the fourth leg of the 2018 FINA Swimming World Cup series between 4th and 6th October. Thanks to the huge success of the events, the International swimming body FINA decided that Budapest will host the 2024 short course championships.
Concerning the World Wrestling Championships, Nenad Lalovics, President of the United World Wrestling thanks Budapest for the superior organisation of the 2018 World Wrestling Championship, and he highlighted that Hungarians organised the best event in the history of the sport.
