Budapest Airport is eager to please Chinese travellers with brand new services
Due to the increasing number of Chinese travellers, Budapest Airport is making a few changes to make their journey easier; including Chinese information boards, an application, and the introduction of Alipay and UnionPay at the duty-free shops of the airport.
No. of Chinese travellers on the rise
Over 200,000 people flew to Budapest from China last year.
It is expected that this number will continue to increase in 2019. As Daily News Hungary reported earlier, Shanghai-Budapest direct flights will be introduced starting from June 2019. Shanghai Airlines plans to commence operations to Budapest with three weekly flights (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday).

New services
Turizmus.com reports that Budapest Airports is planning to introduce several new services for Chinese tourists. For example, two new payment solutions will be introduced that are particularly popular among the Chinese: Alipay and UnionPay. Now, people will have a chance to pay through these online payment methods at the duty-free shops of Budapest Airport. After the duty-free shops, these will probably be established at the restaurant facilities of SkyCourt as well.
The most important information (a map of the terminals, the up-to-date info of arrivals and departures) is available through the Budapest Airport app, developed for smartphones. The app has been available in Chinese since July 2018.
Starting from the second half of this year, several information boards will be placed all over the airport in Chinese to help people orient themselves easier. These will include information that is of importance to Chinese travellers, like where and how to claim value-added-tax (VAT), as well as general information like where the lounges or toilets are.
