The Szeged District Prosecutor’s Office initiated 36 proceedings due to illegal crossing of closed border. All of them admitted the crime was committed: 24 Syrian, 8 Kosovar, 2 Libyan and one-one declared themselves Afghani and Iraqi. Since the announcement of the migration crisis situation, the Szeged District Prosecutor’s Office initiated accelerated proceedings against a total of 477 people due to crimes of illegal crossing of closed border.

The number of the Bangladeshi people increased two and a half times, the Iraqi people by a third and the Pakistani people by 62%, and the number of people declaring themselves Syrians doubled in August.

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó told Faktor: the construction of the border lock is nearly complete at the Croatian-Hungarian border. In addition to the physical obstacle, sufficient policemen and soldiers are needed. The Visegrad countries will soon send troops to protect the border so the green border can be closed within days.

According to Szijjártó, it cannot be ruled out that violent events would happen after the closing of the border.

“We have to close the green border in such a way that we have to be prepared for violent atrocities we had to face at Röszke.”
