Guests spent a record number of nights in Hungary in the first quarter of 2019. The country had over 1 million foreign visitors. Budapest seems to be the most popular among Brits, Italians and Germans.
Forbes reports that Hungary drew a record number of foreign visitors in the first quarter of 2019. In the period between January and April,
the number of nights spent in commercial accommodations in Budapest approached 3 million, which is a historical record.
April was the strongest month
According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), April was the most successful month for Hungarian tourism: accommodations were working with 86.3% capacity. 328,156 guests spent 810,409 nights in the Hungarian capital in April.
All nights (local and foreign) spent in the country exceeded 900,000 in April.
Four-star hotels were the most popular choices for accommodation.
The number of foreign guests visiting the country exceeded 1 million in the first quarter of the year, and they spent 2.5 million nights here.
Interestingly, the number of local tourists in Budapest has decreased by 2.8% since last year: 203,848 people spent 391,160 nights in the capital. However, the number of foreign visitors seems to increase continually.
Gross 60 billion Forints of income was generated by commercial accommodations in the first quarter. About 90% of all of the profit from commercial accommodations came from foreign guests, and only 10% from local visitors.

- United Kingdom: 107,281 visitors – 282,521 nights
