Devastating! These are the poorest regions in Hungary

In the most impoverished regions and towns of Hungary, the income is 2,5 less than the average. In these critical areas of the country, the situation is indeed devastating and shocking.

Pénzcentrum reported that the average Hungarian income was 350,000 HUF (1,044 EUR) between January and March. The net value of this income is approximately 240,000 HUF (716 EUR), which equals an 11% increase since last year in the same period. Although this amount of money is not a critical one, those people who have enough income to earn a living still do not think about the statistics positively but rather negatively.

Approximately 60–70% of Hungarian citizens’ income is still less than 1,044 EUR.

On the other hand, the gap between the incomes is not as deep as the gap between the country’s geographical factors which affect everyday life and earning a living. According to official statistics and reports, in the poorest towns and villages, the residents are “vegetating” to earn a living. In these regions of Hungary, people live in the poorest and most devastating environment.

The poorest residents are usually single parents, children, teenagers, and Romani people.

The number of available jobs is almost equal to zero in these regions. In the poorest regions the unemployment rate is 10% but in some areas even 15% (in the wealthiest regions of Hungary around 3%).

The top three most critical regions in the country

Csenger region (Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County)

• Net income/year/person: 620,360 HUF (1,850 EUR)

Kunhegyesi region (Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County)

• Net income/year/person: 628,700 HUF (1,870 EUR)

Fehérgyarmat region

• Net income/year/person: 637,000 HUF (1,900 EUR)
