New electric double decker trains to commence operation soon in Hungary

State-owned Hungarian railway company MÁV ordered forty Stadler-KISS double-decker electric trains from Swiss manufacturer; Stadler Bussnang AG back in April 2017, and the first two are finally done. The new trains are scheduled to commence operating in February 2020.

László Tasó, National development ministry’s state secretary, signed the original agreement for public transport, as well as economy ministry state secretary for the budget Peter Beno Banai, MÁV chairman-CEO Ilona David and GYSEV CEO Szilard Kovesdi.

Hungarian state railways to buy double decker electric trains from Stadler

MÁV ordered 40 KISS “double decker” trains altogether, 11 in the first phase in 2018. These first 11 trains are scheduled to commence operating in Dunakeszi in February 2020, hvg reports.

Then, 8 more trains are scheduled for the beginning of 2021. Two KISS trains have been constructed so far. First, these trains must go on trial runs in order to obtain a permit (service authorisation) for all the other trains of the same type; one goes to Germany and the other one goes to the Check Republic.
