Budapest (MTI) – The radical nationalist Jobbik party and green opposition LMP said they will support the planned amendment to Hungary’s law on land sales provided that it leads to the dismantling of landlordism.
Jobbik lawmaker Zoltan Magyar and LMP lawmaker Benedek R Sallai said at a joint press conference that their parties are currently in talks with Fidesz MP and the head of the National Chamber of Agriculture, Balazs Gyorffy, on changes they want to see in the bill before the vote.
Magyar said Jobbik would support the bill if Fidesz adds a clause originally proposed by Jozsef Angyan, a former MP of the ruling party, in 2013, on limiting the amount of land a single family can buy.
Parliament’s legislative committee on Thursday postponed the debate on the amendment to Friday. The law on land sales requires a two-thirds majority in parliament.
