Hungarian man with COVID-19 died in Thailand, but not because of the coronavirus!

A young Hungarian tourist diagnosed with COVID-19 died on Phuket island, Thailand. His death, however, was not a result of the coronavirus.

The 25-year-old Hungarian man arrived on the island of Phuket in November 2019. He was a frequent visitor of the island who was in close contact with many residents. The man was the 88^th registered COVID-19 case on the island. He fell sick on March 26. All 35 of his close contacts are considered at high risk and are being sought by authorities, The Thaiger reports.

The Bangkok Embassy of the State Department informed 444.hu that a 25-year-old Hungarian citizen has died in Phuket, Thailand. Even though the man was diagnosed with COVID-19, he died of the severe injuries he got from a motorcycle accident that happened on 25 March.

It is known that the man suffered a dangerous motorcycle accident earlier in March. His death was, in fact, not due to the coronavirus infection, but due to his severe injuries from the accident.

Phuket is one of the Southern provinces of Thailand with an area of 576 square kilometres, which makes it the second-smallest province. It consists of the country’s largest island; Phuket, and 32 other smaller islands. It lies off the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea. The island used to be on one of the major trading routes between India and China, but today it lives mainly on tourism.

Phuket confirmed 13 new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus on 3 April, bringing the total cases to an even one hundred.

Most cases appear to have originated in the island’s Patong area, mainly from the Bangla Road red-light district. Currently, there is an unofficial curfew in Patong. The governor issued a public decree urging residents to stay in their homes at all costs, only going out for groceries and other necessities.
