A decade-long lawsuit process has been finished in Veszprém on Thursday: the court finally convicted Salamon Berkowitz and his son Moses Berkowitz for the falsification of Traubisoda drink for years, index.hu reported.
According to the judgement, the Berkowitz, as co-perpetrators, continuously infringed the industrial property rights.
Newspaper Magyar Nemzet wrote that the court fined Salamon B one and a half million HUF and Moses B 750 thousand forints. In addition, the company – which is under liquidation – of the two American citizens called Tra-Üdi Zrt. received a 15 million-HUF penalty.
According to the paper, the court proceedings were long because Berkowitz tried to slow it down. They did not appear many times either.
The proceedings were in progress since 2010.
The indictment said that they produced millions of bottles of soft drinks as the leaders of Tra-Üdi Zrt. since 2005 which infringed the trademark of the original Traubi with their labels or bottles. In 2011, the Budapest Court of Appeals finally decided: the companies of Salamon Berkowitz unlawfully produced drinks known as Traubi, Traubisoda and Tra-Üdi since 1998. Over the years they damaged the Hungarian state and private companies with several hundred million forints, and they prevented the recovery of public and private debts, index.hu wrote.
