Thirteen EU countries have expressed concern over Hungary’s new law – UPDATE
Thirteen European Union countries have expressed concern over Hungary’s new law against paedophiles, saying that it discriminates against the LGBT community and violates “the right to freedom of expression under the pretext of protecting children”, Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Wilmes said on Tuesday.
Wilmes said the governments of Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden have signed a joint statement criticising Hungary’s new law for introducing “a prohibition of the ‘portrayal and the promotion of gender identity different from sex at birth, the change of sex and homosexuality’ for persons under 18”.
The statement said the law also violated the freedom of expression and limited the freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information.
Stigmatising sexual minorities constitutes a clear breach of their fundamental right to dignity, it added.
Wilmes, who is participating in a meeting of the EU’s General Affairs Council, said the new law had been discussed at the meeting. She said the Benelux countries had a duty to speak out if they believed that the rights of sexual minorities and EU values were being undermined.
The minister said the statement’s signatories have called on the European Commission to use every tool available to ensure that EU law is respected, even referring the case to the EU court, if necessary.

UPDATE
Commenting on the joint statement, Hungarian Justice Minister Judit Varga said that “like several others before it”, the statement was declaring a piece of Hungarian legislation to be in violation of EU law without the signatories having assessed the law in question.
She criticised the statement for containing “completely baseless fake news”.
Hungary believes that the legislation has nothing to do with EU law, Varga said, adding that the principle of subsidiarity and constitutional and national identity were national competences. Further, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union also declares that providing the cultural and traditional background for a child’s development is the right of the parent, she said.
Hungary’s anti-paedophile law does not discriminate against anyone and imposes no restrictions on the freedom of expression, Varga said.

The perilous position Hungary under its present Government AGAIN deepens and tarnishes it’s IMAGE – with power broker countries of the European Union.
Who are our friends and allies ?
The list continues to demenish which is of grave concern for Hungary.
The (13) thirteen European countries “signed off” is another joint and unified message or statement to Victor Orban and his Government that Hungary, possible, in the time of Hungary’s membership, joining the European Union in 2004 – NEVER have Hungary been “under the microscope” – to the deepening and broadness extent, that they have placed themselves in, at present.
It is interesting to note that of the remaining member countries (14) fourteen off that did not sign this “joint statement” of concern – the vast number of them had FACTORIALLY been previously – under Communistic Rule.
Watch this fact intently – as a pattern continues to unfold in the Political landscape of Hungary.
Albert Einstein – words of advice could be considered by the Government of Hungary.
“Attitude is a Little thing, that Makes a BIG Difference.”
You should see what they teach children in us schools, no wonder that the government is banning these teachings.
I would like to express my full support for the position of the Hungarian government in the issues concerning the teaching and promotion of gender and trans-gender ideology in the schools. The push for indoctrination of children has nothing to do with freedom of expression or rights of sexual minorities. What is happening in many states under the disguise of sexual education is simply brain-washing and manipulation of children at very sensitive and malleable age. As all ideologies, they go after the most vulnerable – children, and they are trying to pit children against their parents in order to undermine the influence of the family. Please stay strong on this, Hungarians, you are the hope of people who still kept their sanity!
It is almost UNBELIEVABLE the moral decline of some of these EU countries.
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?
Am I to understand that PAEDOPHILES have the ‘right’ to ‘express’ and ‘inform’ and WE ARE NOT
ALLOWED TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN?
This is beyond any REASON.
HUNGARY, PLEASE DON’T TRY TO REASON WITH THESE INSANE INDIVIDUALS!!!!!!!!
GET AWAY WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!!
The Mayor of Munich is upset by the Hungarian Law. It is evident that the Mayor did not read the law. Those commentators who read the law wrote that this law “maybe or could be” used to discriminate. As things stand the law is not used to discriminate.
An article from EURACTIV said that “Discrimination in Germany of is LGBT is higher than the European average”.
Germany and Germans should fix problems in their own country before criticizing innocent laws in other lands.
13 eu government’s…not the people.
This law does not “stigmatize” minorities. That is a lie.
When you need to lie, it means you are wrong about this subject.
Parents should decide what is taught to their children about sexuality. The EU wants to take away your religious freedom by teaching your children things that are contrary to some religions, like Islam.
Schools should teach reading, writing, math and history. Schools have no place teaching social issues.
Oi
When I am talking about ‘individuals’ I mean these insane people who are making decisions for the countries.
I wonder why suddenly Hitler comes to mind?!
Meanwhile in Australia – LGBTQ activist transforming schools admits: “We’re training school teachers to completely smash heteronormativity” Stay strong Hungary!
There’s a place in London which helps youngsters who want to change their gender, it’s paid for by the NHS. However, once they’ve started treatment or undergone their changes, a few years later maybe into their mid 20s they realise they don’t want to be what they’ve chosen. Therefore it’s either irreversible or they start treatment again to go back to what they were. People who criticise saying children have a right to know about gender identity, I say just let children be children. It’s the parents a lot of the time, letting their sons wear dresses etc just to prove a point. A teacher was actually dismissed for not referring to a boy as ‘she’. The child was under 10 years old. It went against the teacher’s beliefs.
Paedophelia is something completely different, it has nothing to do with gender identity. Words can’t describe how disgusting this is. You can lock up a paedo but not someone who’s simply chosen another way of life. Being gay isn’t against the law. However, I wouldn’t want a child of mine to be taught any of this in schools. You have to draw the line somewhere, how would any of it help in securing a job for the future. I mean, you wouldn’t take an exam in it would you.
Even on the latest census there was a box to tick whether you’re ‘non binary’ or ‘what you identify with’. Before it was always male or female, done.
It just gets ridiculous.
Being a white heterosexual man, but with some people in his circle of friends who count as either non binary or attracted to the same sex I must say I’m a bit shocked by the comments here.
Any law that is trying to ban discussions or connects homosexuality with paedophilia is simply not compatible with the EU’s values of freedom, liberty and the enablement of individual choice.
That it goes under the veil of leaving it up to the parents makes it even worse. Ask people in the west who discovered their true nature during the 1950s and 1960s. Not fun times.
I hope that this law is seen for what it is, a distraction to the criminal activities that Orban is deploying for himself and his cronies.
If people don’t like the new law that much move to a different country ??????
They can’t stand the fact that he hungarian goverment has been so successful – these are same mob that insist it’s not a democracy but a dictatorship.
Election soon- I wonder if these 13 members will except the results. European will soon be a minority in almost every country- in other words it’s fucked.
