The popularity of the opposition’s prime ministerial candidate, Péter Márki-Zay, was at 33 percent in January, down by 3 percentage points since December and 9 percentage points since his nomination in October 2021, a survey published by the Századvéd Foundation on Friday shows.
According to the January phone survey of 1,000 adults, 42 percent of respondents living in Budapest expressed positive opinions of Márki-Zay, while 52 percent said they “do not like him”, the pollster said.
The opposition’s candidate who is also mayor of Hódmezővásárhely, in southeast Hungary, was popular with 35 percent of respondents in county seats and 32 percent of those living in smaller towns, while he was unpopular with 56 and 61 percent of voters in those localities, respectively, Századvéd said.
In villages, 26 percent of respondents approved and 65 percent disapproved of Márki-Zay, Századvéd said.
Századvéd attributed Márki-Zay’s waning popularity to conflicts between the candidate and the leftist alliance supporting him. “Setting up an opposition election lists has proven to be more challenging than originally anticipated,” it said.
Márki-Zay has also slammed highly popular government measures such as the re-introduction of the 13th month pension, utility price cuts and the cap on fuel prices, it added.

Let’s not forget that the Századvéd Foundation is hardly an impartial body. Google it and look at the Board of Trustees – all Fidesz henchmen. This is effectively a fake opinion poll commissioned by an ‘at arms length’ extension of Fidesz and quite naturally, has produced a result that suits the government nicely. It has no credibility, it is a propaganda tool.
@Anonymous, doesn’t matter if you think if it is just propaganda tool. The fact is that the opposition hasn’t done a great job convincing the public, especially the rural areas, that they are an alternative option to Fidesz. This election race should not be close with the opposition being formed from the left and some centre-right parties.
Problem – still facing Hungary and it appears will AGAIN see the present Goverment returned – is that there SIMPLE are to Many Political Parties – in the Hungarian system
Fragmentation – coming from differant positions – not having a “Common Ground” – nor a “Common Uniformed Goal” in Policy – unhealed old scares – power games within Parties that plays no Positiveness in Mounting an Opposition or an Alturnative Government.
What we are dealing with in Hungary – the “Shambles” very much evidenced in the present run up to the National Elections in April 2022 – points in part that I have raised – in part, just play into the hands of the Fidesz Party.
Hungary is dealing with a structure – in what are seen as Opposition Parties – that has been through the present Government – shaping & moulding – its Design – to tighten there position – when National Elections are called in Hungary.
History – has shown – it NEVER Lies – the ask to oppose the present of Government of Hungary – is a task of Monumental proportions – that to replace them – Fidesz – the cards are STACKED – that they pull manipulate all the strings – feed by a Massive Propaganda Machine – that gives again – clear indications – they will be the returning Government in Hungary.
The “ask” on the number of Political Parties in Hungary – supporters of these Political Groups – to formulate a document of absolute to-getherness – that outlines – presents to the citizens of Hungary – that these are our – Unanimous joint agreements on Policies – that we present and table to the citizens of Hungary – this is NOT possible – in the World of Politics – of the 21st century.
Prime Minister – Neville Chamberlain of the United Kingdom – 1937-1940 – in his time as Prime Minister dealing with Germany – Adolf Hitler – that saw a Foreign Policy of Appeasment and the signing of the Munich Agreement in September 1938 – was asked the question by journalists :
“Mr Prime Minister do you think returning to Germany – Munich to meet with Adolf Hitler – you are going to acheive Peace – without the threats of invasion – commencement of War – that Hitler/Germany had in place at that time ?
Chamberlain – born into a Family of Wealth – replied to the journalist :
“From a very early age, I have never forgotten that in life if you don’t succeed once – try and try AGAIN”.
Chamberlain – history overall has not been kind to you as a British Prime Minister – but, was his “Trying Again” – just solely faced upon – the buying of time – knowing in his – “guts” – that Germany/ under Adolf Hitler – at some stage would commence its process of Invasion(s) ???
My opinion – YES – that Chamberlain was buying time.
Hungary – the Opposition Parties – is this the FACTUAL Honest Case :
” That to Many cooks – spoil the broth”.
In the case of the Opposition Parties in Hungary – we continue to witness – that by there NUMBERS – involved in the task of attempting to form an Alturnative Government – that THEY – are Floudering – and it is and will not be Done Well.
