Hungarian ppl gathered €1.8 million for Ukrainian refugees through aid line

All Hungarians, including civilians and organisations, have moved to help refugees fleeing from the Ukraine-Russia war, the state secretary for international communications and relations said on Saturday after visiting an aid centre in Barabás near the border.

Zoltán Kovács told a joint press conference with representatives of the Ecumenical Charity, the local government office, army and police that in terms of its complexity and the number of people involved, the greatest humanitarian aid scheme since post-communist transformation was under way.

Over the past two weeks and a half, nearly 180,000 people arrived over the Hungary-Ukraine border but together with those that arrived through Romania, the number of refugees might exceed 360,000, he said.
