Flow of Ukraine refugees unwavering, Hungary assists foreigners get home
Altogether 1,770 refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine, including 548 children, arrived in Budapest by train on Saturday, Budapest police said on their website.
Most of the refugees sought information and continued their journey or went to stay with relatives. The authorities and charity organisations offered shelter to 89 people, including 55 children, police.hu said.
Police officers are on duty at Budapest’s Keleti and Nyugati railway stations to help people fleeing from Ukraine.
They are working in cooperation with the disaster management authority, the immigration office, national railway MAV, Budapest’s public transport company and aid organisations, the police said.
Hungary assists over 8,800 foreigners fleeing Ukraine
Hungary has assisted 8,813 foreigners from twelve countries who have fled Ukraine because of the war, so far, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in a post on Facebook on Sunday.
In the last few days alone, Hungary has helped 300 Nigerian, 208 Chinese and 190 Ecuadorian citizens return home, Szijjártó said.
Even as the war passes the three-week mark, “several hundred” foreign students and workers have asked Hungary for help on their way back home, he added.
