There are still ppl fleeing Ukraine: Budapest receives over 1,000 refugees

Police receive over 1,000 refugees in Budapest, and the families of the staff of Ukrainian disaster management to be provided asylum.

Situation in Budapest

Budapest police received 1,034 refugees, with 442 children among them, on Wednesday, according to the police website.

Refugees arriving on special train services at Kobanya felso railway station, in eastern Budapest, were taken by bus to the BOK sports and events centre serving as a humanitarian transit point.

The authorities transported 248 people, including 165 children, to accommodation in the capital and outlying areas.

The police have contracted 31 Ukrainian interpreters and they are working closely with staff of the disaster management authority, the immigration office, the Budapest metropolitan council, as well as numerous aid groups, the statement said.

Families of the staff of Ukrainian disaster management

The families of Ukrainian disaster management staff, some 200 people, have arrived in Hungary where they will receive asylum.

László Kuti, Hungary’s consul in Uzhorod (Ungvár), who helped organised their transfer, said the wives and children of 50 disaster mangement employees working in the Donetsk region occupied by Russia have arrived Merk, in northeast Hungary.

They will be housed in a recently renovated elderly care home, and they will receive health care, legal aid and help in finding jobs if necessary, he said.
