Former Russian president Medvedev wrote that Orbán was brave to reject the EU ban on Russian oil

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev praised the Hungarian prime minister on Telegram yesterday. The current deputy president of the Russian Security Council said that Viktor Orbán was brave not to support the planned EU embargo on Russian energy.

As we wrote before, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was put as an enemy of Ukraine on a far-right website, Mirotvorec, crudely nicknamed the “death list”. The website presents the personal information of tens of thousands of individuals, such as their full name, date of birth, address, and passport number.

According to 24.hu, Medvedev highlighted in his Telegram post yesterday that Europe remained silent regarding the initiative on the Russian energy import embargo,

only Orbán was brave.

He refused to accept the energy ban devastating his country, and he also rejected putting Orthodox leader Patriarch Kirill of Moscow on the sanctions list. Orbán said yesterday that such a decision would affect the freedom of religion for Hungarian communities, which he said was “sacred and inviolable”.

Medvedev said that the reasonable leaders of the European Union became

tired of running to the abyss with the sterilised European herd, which the American shepherd leads to the slaughterhouse.

We shall see what the shepherd will do and how those ready to sacrifice their lives for the welfare of the shepherd will behave, Medvedev wrote.

There are intelligent politicians who can think reasonably and strategically,” Vladimir Legoida, the head of the media department of the Russian Church, commented on Orbán’s decision not to support the sanctions on Patriarch Kirill on Telegram.

The European Union’s proposal to phase out imports of Russian crude oil is “unacceptable”, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Friday, adding it was equivalent to

“dropping a nuclear bomb on the Hungarian economy”.

In a regular interview with public broadcaster Kossuth Rádió, the prime minister said that EU Member States had agreed earlier that the bloc should only take steps that take into consideration the different energy mixes of Member States and their sovereign right to decide on them.

However, the president of the European Commission “either willingly or unwillingly attacked this hard-fought European unity,” he added. While countries with seaports can have energy resources delivered to them by ships, landlocked countries are wholly dependent on pipelines, he said. “The pipeline leading to Hungary starts in Russia… that is a given,” he said. Hungary cannot accept proposals ignoring that fact, he said.

  1. The Brand name Hungary – continues to ger – “Scared & Battered”.
The “lid” can’t be held on forever and in the immediate FUTURE – we can EXPECT – the economic position and “failed”
relationships of Hungary – the inability to be Honest / Transparent – with it’s Citizens, to cause in-creditable destruction under Duress – to it’s citizens.
Pressurization – that is building on Hungary – from vast directions – just not the European Union – but Europe – and the WIDER World – that will see and witness Hungary – “Yeild” be overcome – by the self created POSITION – through the direction and path the Government under Victor Orban – has DRIVEN this country – Hungary.
The path will be Destructive – and signs continue to build at a rapid pace, that this will be FACT.

  2. Supporting Russian oil/gas embargo is tantamount to suicide. Why would Hungary sacrifice its economy for Biden’s temper tantrum and Zelensky’s incompetence in avoiding the destruction of Ukraine? It is right for the Hungarian government to put Hungarians and Hungarian economy first and allow Zelensky to play at his little war without interference.

  3. @mariavontheresa – so. Having politicians put all our eggs in one single basket is not incompetence ? As Peter Szijjártó said when he received the Russian Order of Friendship in December of last year: (he was) “proud of maintaining a cooperation based on mutual interests and trust with Moscow, despite daunting global and regional tendencies … Hungary’s success in fighting the European energy crisis and the coronavirus pandemic hinged on the decision to pursue a foreign policy rooted in national interests”.

Apparently, Mr. Szijjártó and co went and put all of their (OUR) money on the WRONG HORSE

  4. @marievontheresa, if nothing else (and you have in the recent past written much much more, “Zelensky to play at his little war” as you wrote shows what a nasty Russian troll (living in Canada) you are. Shame on you.

  5. Just so that other readers know, in the past ‘marievontheresa’ has stated in previous comments that the 1956 Russian invasion of Hungary was one of the best things to have happened to Hungary and the future of Hungary still lies with being within the Russian orbit and to take advantage of everything China has to offer in terms of being within their sphere of geopolitical influence as well.

  6. Anonymous, you are lying. How much is Soros paying you? Where is your proof? It is people like you that betray the people of Hungary. There is only one solution for traitors.

Hungary in 1956 was tired of Russian oppression. Only the minority communist supporters were happy. The rebellion gave hope for freedom for a few weeks. Even at the start, the parks of Budapest were filled with tombs of the brave young people. The only cheerful site was the burnt out Russian tanks with bodies of Russian soldiers. Hungarian leaders asked for western help or at least UN peace keepers. The west ignored the uprising and carried on its merry way. The west did not care in 1956 nor does it care now.

Hungary has the right to hold a grudge against Turks, Habsburgs. Hungarians should despise France, US and UK for the Treaty of Trianon as well as ignoring 1956. Presently, ethnic Hungarians that ended up in Ukraine are oppressed by Zelensky and his government. Now, the EU is determined to ruin Hungary’s economy. Hungary finally learned from history, good riddance to the so called allies.

Yes, Hungary needs oi/gas. Yes, Russia supplies it. Hungary should stick to its 15 year agreement with Russia. This is not a pro Russian but pro Hungarian decision.

The Eu is upset with Hungary because Hungary does not cede its sovereignty to Brussels. As past history demonstrates, it is better to recognize Brussels and the rest of EU especially Holland as well as Russia as potential enemies.. Hungary should just think of Hungarians, then, there will not be any further disappointments. Hungary can only rely on Hungarians.

  7. @marievonthersa, my proof of what you have written are the comments that you have posted in the past and that I have saved. Changing your tune now won’t change what you wrote in the past.

  8. Anonymous, you have no proof because you are lying. You did not answer whether Soros pays you. You are just not smart enough to differentiate between pro Hungarian decision and not pro Russian. Freezing and starving the people of Hungary for lack of gas is only supported by traitors or idiots.

History has proven that trusting any foreign power is naive.
