Pope Francis to visit Hungary this spring
Pope Francis is planned to visit Hungary this year. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had a formal meeting with the Pope in the Vatican last April, after the Hungarian parliamentary elections. At the meeting, the Prime Minister formally invited him to visit Hungary the following year.
The state visit to Hungary will take place in the spring, according to the Hungarian Catholic portal Katolikus.ma.
Official announcement
The visit has not yet been confirmed by the Vatican. Although Index.hu reports that an official announcement must be published by the Vatican, Hungary has already confirmed the news. The press report was confirmed by István Simicskó, the whip of the Christian Democratic People’s Party (KDNP). Simicskó recently held a press conference in Balatonfüred, Hungary, where he mentioned the visit of the Pope. As he said,
Pope Francis will come to Budapest again at the end of April to visit Hungarians and promote peace.
Preparations for the Pope’s visit have been underway for a while. When President of Hungary Katalin Novák met the Pope in the Vatican last August, she handed over the official letter of invitation. At the same time, Pope Francis confirmed his intention to visit. Preparations for the visit then began in Hungary, Katolikus.ma reports.
The visit
As Katolikus.ma has learned, the visit will last several days. According to their information, the Pope will meet Viktor Orbán and Katalin Novák in Budapest. He also plans to visit members of the diplomatic corps, church representatives and several priests. In addition, he is expected to meet representatives of the historic churches.
Although the exact schedule of the visit has not yet been finalised, the portal acquired information that Pope Francis will celebrate a Holy Mass in St. Stephen’s Basilica. Furthermore, he will reportedly visit Szeged and several Hungarian cities he has not blessed before with his presence.
World Youth Day will be held in Lisbon between 1-6 August this year. Therefore, the theme of the Pope’s visit to Hungary will also be youth. As the portal writes, this visit is likely to assist the Hungarian Church to prepare for World Youth Day.

What an OPPORTUNITY;
Pope Francis – in his homily St Stephens Basilica in April 2023 his Pontifical Mass, in celebration of his 2nd visit to Hungary – to use – REMIND all of Hungary, the “wisdom” and BLESSED words given to us by Saint Pope John Paul 11 in August 1991.
It is ETCHED in stone for all to read in Hero’s Square, the place Saint Pope John Paul 11 celebrated his “open air” Pontifical Mass.
He was in attendance – the present Prime Minister of Hungary – Victor Orban.
This Pontifical mass (2) two years on but on the opposite side of Hero’s Square – the place, Victor Orban stood at the microphone speaking to the mass crowd in attendance and ALL of Hungary via radio and television, centered on DEMOCRACY is the way forward for Hungary.
Saint Pope John Paul 11 – his MESSAGE to Hungary;
“Be mindful of the blessings freedom which you have(Hungary) Definitively Secured – means for your FUTURE.
Cherish it and make Good use of your Liberty,”
Pope Francis – is presented to REMIND us – Hungary of the words in Saint Pope John Pauls 11 homily of 1991 August, and ask the question;
“What has gone WRONG, that Hungary to-day is in the PLACE it is”
He attended – Victor Orban heard the Pontiffs words, delivered his own “Sermon” – (2) two years previous, August 1991, that ALL contained in these two events – Orbans and Saint Pope John Paul 11 that where BROADCAST – the width & Breath of Hungary, throughout Europe and the Global World, the present Prime Minister of Hungary – Victor Orban has DISMISSED.
History never Lies – and what Victor Orban has managed by his own doings, the Hungary, we are living in, to survive in, at this point in time – Sacrilegious.
Expect a very diplomatically veiled remark from Pope Francis questioning the direction Hungary is taking. Too bad John Paul II is not here to face Orban. He made Jaruzelski shake at the knees.
Oh Lord! Someone forgot to inform His Holiness that he’ll be feathering our “Messiah’s” cap if he meets with him.
Personally, I would prefer His Holiness to visit Kyiv, Berlin, Paris, Brussels, Rio de Janeiro, Havana and Lagos, but I know, he is not all that spritely anymore.
