Spanish airline increases number of flights from Budapest: USA, Australia reachable
Iberia, the Spanish national airline, will increase its number of flights taking off from Budapest Airport. As a result, even North America, Australia and Latin America will be reachable more easily from the Hungarian capital.
According to turizmus.com, Budapest Airport expects 14 million passengers this year, which will be 86 percent of 2019, the airport’s peak year. In the 2023 summer timetable, there are 38 airlines and 121 destinations. However, some French cities and transatlantic flights are still missing from the repertoire. We lamented HERE why those flights do not return to Budapest. The reason may be connected with the bad relationship between the Biden and Orbán administrations.
Meanwhile, Budapest Airport’s Asia portfolio is impressive. Destinations span from Beijing to Seoul and Shanghai to Chongqing. The routes include cargo and passenger flights, too. For example, we reported HERE on the newest direct cargo flight connecting Budapest and Hangzhou in East China.
The air link is strong to Spain: three airlines connect Budapest with nine cities. Iberia has been flying between Madrid and Liszt Ferenc International Airport since 2015. First, it operated flights only three times a week. But that was extended to five times a week by the end of March. In the summer schedule, the number of flights commuting between the two capitals will increase to seven per week.
British Airways announced they would operate five flights a week during the summer between Budapest and London Heathrow. Emil Delibashev, a representative of the IAG group (British Airways-Iberia) added that the regular flight opens up a lot of destinations for Hungarians, including North America, Japan, Mauritius and even Australia.
Iberia is the world’s most accurate airline. 86 percent of its flights arrived in time in 2022.
