VIDEO: This Viking ship will come to Budapest from Norway in June

Saga Farmann left the port of Tønsberg in Norway on 29 April. Based on the website of its voyage, it is planned to arrive in Budapest, Hungary on 25 June. Below, you may check out some photos and videos about the boat and the trip.

Saga Farmann’s voyage will last more than four months, and it will travel through the North Sea and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal to Budapest and beyond. The final destination is Istanbul, Türkiye, but it will visit the Hungarian capital on 25 June. The boat is similar to the so-called knarr, a type of Norse merchant ship used by the Vikings. But it has an electric engine. The original Knarr copied stuck in the Klåstad Bay near Larvik around 1000 AD. The wreck was found 900 years later and dug out in 1970. Today it is exhibited in Tønsberg’s Slottsfjellsmuseet.

In old Norse, Knarr means a boat for long sea voyages. The modern counterpart was built by the Oseberg Viking Heritage Foundation. The work lasted three years, and the new ship was inaugurated in September 2018. The boat has a website and a Facebook page where you can follow its trip.
