PHOTOS: Budapest’s sandy sea-themed beach opens this weekend with free admission!
Lupa Beach is undoubtedly one of the top beaches in Budapest. The sea-themed setting of the capital’s most popular summer spot evokes the vibes of a Mediterranean island. After a relaxing soak in the balmy waters, guests can savour the best dishes of Hungarian and international cuisine under the cooling shadows of palm trees. And the best news is: kids will not have to pay an entrance fee this year.
According to turizmus.com, kids under 12 can enter Budapest’s Lupa Beach free of charge, while teens between 12 and 18 qualify for a discounted ticket. On top of that, Budapest’s ‘sea beach’ will kick off the summer season with a free children’s day this week.
One adult can bring along up to three children under 12, who can enjoy the facility for free, Lupa creator Károly Gerendai said. Apart from adolescents, seniors above 60 are also eligible for discounted tickets. Furthermore, residents of Budakalász and Szentendre also receive a 50 percent discount. Moreover, those aiming to swim or enjoy the beach after office hours can benefit from a 30 percent discount after 4 PM.
Lupa will launch the 2023 summer season with a free children’s day on 28 May, Mr Gerendai added. Organisers prepare for the season with plenty of exciting programmes for the little ones, including a Ninja Warrior obstacle course, laser fights, treasure hunts, archery and target practice. If the weather allows it, guests can check out the water adventure park as well as the sailing and SUP opportunities. Furthermore, there will be sand castle-building contests, vegetable carving and lots of sports: volleyball, beach handball, badminton and pétanque – just to mention a few.

Entertainment at Budapest’s Lupa Beach
Lupa offers numerous H2O adventures for adrenaline junkies this year. One of the most spectacular ones is the Flyboard by Quadro Watersport. Here is a video for those not familiar with this extreme water sport. The point is that the “flyboarder” can be elevated to 4-6 meters high above the water surface by a pair of water spouts. It is similar to Jetpack.
Lupa has a shallow water area for families visiting with small kids. There will be handicraft lessons and a childcare centre, allowing parents to spend some quality time together. On the gastro promenade, beachgoers can choose from a large selection of popular beach foods, including some specialties and a number of frosty cocktails as well.
You can reach Lupa Beach even by bicycle through the EuroVelo bike route. Between Budapest downtown and the beach, the Lupa bus will carry the passengers. Those coming with the HÉV can continue their trip with electric cars from Budakalász Station to the beach entrance.
Moreover, Lupa will hold an international summer camp between June and August:
