VIDEO: Norwegian man planned mass murder in Budapest, arrested by police
A Norwegian citizen living in Budapest was apprehended last week by members of the TEK counter-terrorism unit, suspected of preparing an act of terrorism, police.hu said on Tuesday.
The Hungarian Rapid Response Police National Bureau of Investigation was alerted by TEK that the 45-year-old man had uploaded several videos to a video sharing website indicating that he was planning a killing spree. He generally spoke in Norwegian in the videos, though he also issued threats in English.
The Hungarian investigators contacted Norwegian police and were told that the man had been convicted several times in his home country for various violent and sex crimes.
He was apprehended in his rented home in Budapest last Wednesday, and police seized computer and related equipment found during a house search.
The court ordered his arrest on Saturday and he has been placed in the custody of the Judicial Observation and Psychiatric Institute (IMEI), police.hu said.
