PHOTOS: Budapest’s only free beach open to the public!

Budapest’s only free Danube beach opened to the public on 30 June with a live concert on the Római beach. The Római Plázs, a popular bathing spot, will remain open until 20 August.

The beach is operated by the local government of the 3rd district, Óbuda-Békásmegyer. The Plázs is free of charge and offers coloured sunbeds, drinking water, toilets, diaper changing rooms, showers and bike stores for guests. Furthermore, thanks to some tall and stout trees guarding the beach, there is enough shadow in the afternoon. Thus, you can enjoy summer vibes freely. Here are some photos:

The beach is open between 10 AM and 7 PM. However, you may only use the territory of a maximum of 120 centimetres depth because of the strong currents of the Danube. Water rescue teams and the Hungarian Red Cross are on the beach, offering medical help, index.hu wrote.

The water quality is measured each day, and it is perfect. However, if the numbers exceed the limit, authorities will close the beach. Therefore, if it is open, you can be sure the water quality is good. You can reach the beach by bus nr 34. You need to get off the vehicle at Szent János Street station and walk some minutes. Those arriving with a bike can park it freely on the territory of the Óbuda-Pénzügyőr SE. Drivers may leave their cars on Őrtorony Street, Szent János Street, Losonc Street, or Kalászi Street.

River Danube can be dangerous for even good swimmers. Therefore, the Hungarian police highlighted you should only bathe at the designed places. In Budapest, there are only two of them: the Római Plázs and the Sho Beach, but you need to pay an entrance fee. If you bathe in forbidden zones, the fine may be even HUF 150,000 (EUR 402).
