Transparent Sound New Music Festival

This year’s Transparent Sound New Music Festival events will take place at the Budapest Music Centre, the Liszt Academy, the Hungarian House of Music, Trafó, Fonó, Fuga, Nádor Hall, the Három Holló, Műcsarnok, Eötvös 10 and the Lóvasút Event Centre. Astonishing concerts and musical productions can be visited from the 6th of January to the 2nd of February. Here are the event’s programmes for the week:

Wine Cellar Tours in Baj

In Hungary, the third weekend in January marks the celebration of Vincent Day, a pivotal occasion for vintners and enthusiasts alike. Saint Vincent, revered as the patron saint of wine, is honoured with a traditional harvest festival on his name day. Indulge in the art of wine appreciation with a spectrum of wine tastings and culinary delights. It is advisable to secure reservations in advance to ensure an enriching experience. Here are the dates when you may visit the cellars:

Friday, 19 January (4.oo p.m. to 10.oo p.m.)
Saturday, 20 January (2.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m.)

Night of Ice Rinks

Numerous ice rinks have enthusiastically joined the initiative this year, and in the glorious capital of Hungary, 11 rinks extend the thrill of ice skating into the enchanting realms of the night. The Night of Ice Rinks, a grand undertaking organised by the Hungarian Ice Hockey Association since 2016, has evolved into a widespread and beloved event that welcomes participants of all backgrounds and ages. This large-scale spectacle promises an inclusive and delightful experience for everyone. Here are the locations in Budapest:

Fashion and the City

Discover Budapest’s fashion evolution at the BHM Kiscell Museum’s Fashion and the City exhibition, celebrating the city’s 150th anniversary until April 2024. With 250 exhibits, including garments, accessories, and documents, spanning 1873 to 2023, the showcase unveils the intersection of fashion with social, cultural and historical changes. Housed in an 18th-century Baroque church ruin, the exhibition explores the impact of wars, technology and evolving lifestyles on Budapest’s style. From the 19th century to contemporary designs by 23 Hungarian creators, this condensed exhibit offers a captivating glimpse into Budapest’s identity through the lens of fashion.

Sándor Kereki – Budapest in the seventies from a boy’s perspective

Explore the surprises of Hungarian photography history at Fortepan, where an exceptional collection was uncovered two years ago. Sándor Kereki, born in 1952, captured the essence of Budapest as a teenage photographer in the 1970s. Armed with a camera from his father, Kereki, despite lacking formal training, roamed the city for over a decade, documenting faces and scenes during an era when people readily posed for photographs. The outstanding value of his images lies in the unassuming yet compelling perspective of a contemporary artist navigating the Iron Curtain and seamlessly swimming in the mainstream of international street photography in Budapest.
