Warning: Hungary suffers from extreme heat today, temperatures near record highs

According to the National Meteorological Service’s Sunday forecast, most of the country can expect clear, dry, and sunny weather, although cumulus clouds may form in some areas—primarily in the northeast and northwest. These could bring isolated showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. High temperatures will range between 91 and 102 degrees Fahrenheit (33-39 Celsius), with some regions approaching 104 degrees.
Intense UV radiation and shifting winds
In addition to the heat, UV radiation poses a serious risk: between 11 AM and 4 PM, levels will be high to very high in some places. Experts strongly advise protecting your skin, staying in the shade, and drinking plenty of fluids. Winds will generally be light to moderate throughout the day, but by evening, a shift from west to north may bring gustier conditions, according to the National Meteorological Service. Thunderstorms may also produce strong, gusty winds. By late evening, temperatures will cool to between 75 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit (24-32 Celsius).
Brief cooldown at the start of the week
Monday is expected to be sunny, clear, and dry. In eastern Hungary, particularly the Tiszántúl region, stronger northeasterly winds might be felt. According to Időkép, highs will range from 81 to 91 degrees (27-33 Celsius). Tuesday will bring even more sunshine with barely a cloud in the sky and no precipitation. Mornings could feel fresh, but daytime highs will climb to between 84 and 95 degrees (29-35 Celsius).
More heatwaves on the horizon
The heatwave will intensify again midweek. On Wednesday, temperatures will soar to between 88 and 99 degrees Fahrenheit (31-37 Celsius), and on Thursday, even higher—up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius)—with continued dry, sunny conditions. Winds will pick up as well, particularly in the northwest on Wednesday and more broadly across the country by Thursday with a brisk southeasterly breeze.
Meteorologists warn that prolonged heat can take a toll on the body, urging people to avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight and to refrain from physical activity during the midday hours.
