Oscar-winning actress spotted in Budapest

Budapest has once again become a magnet for Hollywood, with Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway recently spotted filming in the heart of the Hungarian capital. The star was photographed on Erzsébet Boulevard, near the corner of Wesselényi Street, in District VII, one of the city’s busiest and most iconic areas.

According to 24.hu, Hathaway is in Hungary for the filming of Alone at Dawn, a new war drama directed by Ron Howard, the acclaimed filmmaker behind A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code. The production has been underway in Budapest since last autumn, with Adam Driver, who plays the film’s lead role, having already spent months in the city.

Local residents and fans were quick to notice the celebrity outside the Stifler Pool billiards salon, where she was seen alongside members of the film crew. Photos shared by the Színes Erzsébetváros Facebook page quickly gained attention, highlighting yet another major international production making use of Budapest’s versatile locations.

What do we know about the upcoming movie?

Alone at Dawn is based on the 2019 book by Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz and tells the story of the Battle of Takur Ghar during the war in Afghanistan. The film focuses on the heroic actions of US Air Force combat controller John Chapman, portrayed by Adam Driver, who sacrificed his life to save 23 fellow soldiers. Anne Hathaway appears in a key supporting role.

Filming is taking place not only in Budapest but also near Székesfehérvár, including the Szár Hill quarry, which provides an authentic backdrop for large-scale combat scenes. Residents in nearby areas have been warned to expect loud noises, pyrotechnics and temporary closures during production.
