Vietnamese man committed brutal murder in Budapest 30 years ago, now found on social media posing with guns

A Vietnamese man suspected of committing a brutal murder in Budapest more than three decades ago remains at large, despite an active international arrest warrant and repeated attempts by authorities to trace his whereabouts.

Fugitive linked to 1995 killing

According to reports by Hungarian tabloid Blikk, the suspected murderer, Doan Khac Hoang, has been wanted since 1995 in connection with the fatal shooting of a fellow Vietnamese national in the Hungarian capital. Investigators say the crime has no statute of limitations, meaning the case remains open regardless of the time that has passed.

As Blikk reported, the victim was reported missing on 2 March 1995 by his partner. Days later, she reportedly noticed his previously stolen car parked in the city’s 11th district. When police opened the vehicle, they discovered his body wrapped in a blanket inside the boot. Authorities later established that the man had been shot in a rented flat before his cash and gold necklace were stolen. His body was then hidden in the car and left in a nearby parking area.

In case you missed it, it looks like the Samsung battery plant’s management tried to make the Hungarian government halt investigations into poisoning workers.

Suspected accomplice cleared

At the time, investigators identified a Vietnamese couple who had rented the flat as key suspects. However, both disappeared, prompting national, European, and international arrest warrants. A major development came in 2013, when the female suspect was arrested in the Czech Republic and extradited to Hungary. She refused to testify, and prosecutors later dropped the case against her in 2014 due to insufficient evidence proving her involvement.

Social media traces and extradition challenges

Despite decades of searching, the suspected murderer, Hoang, has not been captured. Journalists recently located what appears to be his social media profile, including photographs allegedly showing him posing with a large rifle in Vietnam.

Legal experts note that extradition remains highly unlikely. While Hungary issued international warrants, Vietnam generally does not extradite its own citizens, particularly under a bilateral agreement signed in 2017. Additionally, the country’s population of more than 100 million people presents significant practical obstacles to locating a single fugitive. For now, Hungarian authorities continue to list Hoang as wanted for homicide, and the decades-old case remains unresolved.
