According to the Baranya County Police Headquarters, the case began in July 2025 after a 42-year-old man reported suspicions that his 53-year-old wife and her 76-year-old mother were planning to kill him. Investigators say the two women allegedly bought castor beans, which contain the highly toxic substance ricin, soaked them to extract poison, and mixed the liquid into the man’s coffee.

However, the plan failed when the intended victim became suspicious and chose not to drink from it. As a result, he suffered no injury or health damage, despite the potentially lethal nature of the toxin. Police said evidence gathered during the investigation supported a well-founded suspicion of attempted homicide. Both women were questioned as suspects, taken into custody, and later placed under arrest by court order, writes 24.hu.

Authorities have now completed the procedural steps in the case and forwarded the files to prosecutors with a recommendation to bring charges.
