PM Orbán’s adviser about Ukraine-Tisza Party plot: ‘We won’t let Zelensky have the last laugh’

“In view of Ukraine’s threats, international crises, physical violence and foreign interference it has again been proven that [Hungary’s ruling party] Fidesz is the safe choice” in the upcoming election, the prime minister’s political director said on Facebook on Sunday, adding that “we won’t let [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky have the last laugh.”

Balázs Orbán, citing news portal Telex, said economic sentiment was favourable for Fidesz’s reelection, with a consumer confidence index rising 12 points since July last year and reaching a two-year peak in February. The political director also suggested that both Telex and Politico had “uncovered” a “plot” between the opposition Tisza Party and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Orbán praised the government for its instant security measures in response to developments in the Middle East, stepping up checks and increasing police presence in public spaces and near key facilities. “Law enforcement will be as stringent as possible with persons associated with extremist Islamist groups,” he added.
