Seized Ukrainian cash, gold transport’s origin, destination, use and goal can be revealed soon

A proposal submitted to parliament on Monday would grant powers to tax and customs authority NAV to investigate the matter of the Ukrainian cash and gold transport using clandestine intelligence methods to unveil the origin, destination, use and goal of the money.

The proposal posted on Parliament’s website and submitted by Zoltán Sas of Jobbik, the head of the national security committee, said it also aimed to clear up “the legal justification and aim of the transport through Hungary, the identity of the participants and their possible ties to crime or terror organisations, and the consequences of the transport to Hungary’s national security.”

The proposal would enable NAV to collect information in a clandestine manner within the framework of a special investigation, and to retain the seized 35 million euros and 40 million dollars in cash as well as the 9 pieces of 1kg gold bars for the duration of the investigation. NAV would receive 60 days to complete the review.

NAV would also be appointed to look into “whether parts of the transport had been used in Hungary, which organisations partook from it if it had been, and whether crime, terror or political organisations active in Hungary could have received parts of it.”
