Sensation at the European Athletics Championship: Balázs Baji wins silver medal
Origo.hu writes that the Hungarian athlete Balázs Baji won a silver medal in 110 metres hurdles last Saturday in Amsterdam at the 2016 European Athletics Championships. This is a huge success for Hungarian athletics!
The hurdler, who finished in the 4th place at the last European Championships, beat his own national record by one hundredth with his 13.28 time after setting it in the semi-final. The gold medal was won by the French Dimitri Bascou with 13.25 minutes.
The athlete from Békéscsaba was in the middle field after the start but made his way up gradually and was already in the third place at half-way and then went for the silver medal as he didin`t have a chance of beating Bascou.
Balázs Baji won the second medal of the Hungarian team in Amsterdam: first, Anita Márton finished in second place on Thursday in shot put. Moreover, heptathlonists Xénia Krizsán and Györgyi Zsivoczky-Farkas finished in the fourth and fifth place. And lastly the 4×100 m women`s relay team made up from Fanni Schmelcz, Éva Kaptur, Gréta Kerekes and Anasztázia Nguyen set a national record with a time of 44.34 seconds.
