Hungarian agricultural and food exports to Germany record high

Budapest (MTI) – Hungary’s trade with Germany in agricultural and food products has further increased from last year’s record high turnover, the farm minister said on Tuesday.

The volume of Hungary’s agricultural and food exports to Germany last year went up by 8 percent compared to 2014 and reached 1.222 billion euros, Sándor Fazekas told an international press conference in Budapest.

Exports in these two sectors continued to increase dynamically in the first four months of 2016, and are now expected to reach 1.3 billion euros in a new record by the end of the year, he added.

This, however, will only materialise if Hungary manages to sell goods in a larger annual volume than in 2015 in the German market where competition keeps prices low, the minister said.

Fazekas welcomed the opportunity for Hungary to be the guest of honour at the International Green Week exhibition and fair hosted by Berlin between Jan. 20-27 next year.

“The Green Week is Europe’s largest agricultural and food fair offering Hungary the opportunity to present its goods to around 400,000 visitors,” Fazekas said.
