Extremist group led by suspected cop killer disbanded

Budapest, December 8 (MTI) – Paramilitary group Magyar Nemzeti Arcvonal (Hungarian National Front), whose leader was arrested in October after fatally shooting a police officer in Bőny (NW Hungary), has “practically” been disbanded, the daily Magyar Idők said on Thursday.

Police have launched investigations against all of the group’s active members, placing three of them in pre-trial detention, the paper said.

Most of the group’s nineteen members are under investigation for possession of illegal weapons, ammunition and explosives as well as for suspicion of preparing a violent attack against members of a community. Among those suspected of preparing an attack is István Györkös Jr, the son of the murder suspect from Bőny, the paper said.

Magyar Idők named István Györkös Sr as the nineteenth suspect. Apart from the murder investigation against him, Györkös Sr is also suspected of illegally possessing and storing weapons.

The paper said the second phase of the internal police probe into the Bőny murder case could be wrapped up before Christmas.
