The spectacular 10th Santa Claus Cup – VIDEOS
The 10th Santa Claus Cup International Competition of Figure Skating and Ice Dance brought many magnificent moments during its 6-day-long programme. The event, held in Budapest, welcomed nearly 500 skaters from all around world. Hungarians also competed, some of them even got to stand on the podium!
This year the Santa Claus Cup of Ice Dance and Figure Skating, organized by the Hungarian National Skating Federation (MOKSZ), celebrated its 10th anniversary, which brought the competition a record number of participants: almost 500 amazing skaters competed in the Tüske Rink, in Budapest, between December 6-11.
The event has been listed in the International Skating Union’s (ISU) Calendar of Events and had a great significance for the skaters, as it was the last competition of the year where they could receive the necessary technical points in order to qualify themselves to the European Championships.
No surprise then that skaters from
Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Georgia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Ukraine, Israel, Bulgaria, Liechtenstein, Singapore, Russia, France, Italy, Finland, Norway, Hong Kong, Latvia, Estonia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Ireland, Great-Britain, Austria, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, Romania, the Netherlands, and, of course, Hungary
took the opportunity to show what they are capable of on the ice, and impressed the audience and the panel of judges in 17 categories. Out of the numerous competitors, three Hungarian skaters could convince the judges that they gave the most excellent performances of their category:
Ivett Tóth won gold medal in Figure Skating for Senior Ladies, while Júlia Láng won silver and Csenge Rabb won bronze in Figure Skating for Advanced Novice Girls. But all the other Hungarian skaters performed notably as well; to name a few of them, the pair of Hanna Jakucs and Dániel Illés was placed 5th in Senior Ice Dance, which was won by the Spanish Sara Hurtado and Kirill Khalayavin.
While the Senior Men Figure Skating event was won by the Georgian Moris Kvitelashvili, it also lined up two Hungarians: Alexander Borovoj was eventually ranked 10th, whereas András Csernoch got the 15th place. Tamás Szoboszlai was placed 10th in the Junior Men category, while at the Ladies, Dária Jakab was 12th and Mira Baráth the 20th.

As the competition traditionally bears the name of Santa Claus, and Christmas is just around the corner, the organizers of the event cooperated with the Hungarian Santa Claus Factory (MikulásGyár) in order to make the festive season a bit happier for some children in need.
Visitors could attend the competition completely free of charge, they were only asked to bring a book, toy, or board games (pretty much any form of presents) with themselves which would then be distributed through the Factory to kids who would otherwise not find any presents under the Christmas tree.
