The Ukrainian border guards seized a Hungarian citizen with the help of the country’s security service. They charged him with the attempt to smuggle out conscripts from the country that was invaded by Russia on 24th February.
15 thousand dollars was the cost of freedom for conscripts
According to KárpátHír, the 37-year-old man wanted to smuggle out three conscripts by giving them Hungarian passports. He would have crossed the border with a BMW in Újlak. Each paid 15 thousand dollars to him for the “service.”
The court of Nagyszőlős has ordered his pre-trial detention for 60 days. However,
for 149 thousand hryvnia (4,600 EUR), he can be released on his own recognizance.
However, provided the court finds him guilty, he might be sentenced to 3-5 years in prison.
Even the former Ukrainian prosecutor general tried to escape to Hungary
The three conscripts were not the only ones who tried to escape from the war-stricken country. Former Ukrainian public prosecutor Ruslan Rjabosapka also tried to get away from Ukraine through Transcarpathia. However, he only reached the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. Authorities caught him and did not allow him to cross the border.
He showed a photocopied document to the border guards saying that he had three children, who were French citizens.
