President János Áder honoured Sandor Kányádi with a gala dinner on Tuesday, to mark the anniversary of the publication of the poet’s first volume 60 years ago.

The president has held similar events in an effort to call public attention to outstanding achievements by scientists, artists and sports people contributing to Hungary’s international reputation, the president’s press chief told MTI.

Guests at earlier presidential dinners included conductor Kobayashi Ken Ichiro, inventor Ernő Rubik, international chess grand master Judit Polgár, and legendary footballer Jenő Buzánszky.

Poet, author and translator Kányádi is holder of the prestigeous Kossuth Prize, and has earlier been recognised with the Artist of the Nation title.
