The application for the immunity certificate can now be downloaded
The application “substituting” the plastic card proving protection against coronavirus infection is now available for download. The app is available here (after logging in).
The completion of the application was announced by government spokesman Alexandra Szentkirályi on Thursday’s government information. She said the app will also be available on mobile phones with Android and iOS and will include the name of the vaccinee, the date of the vaccinations, and the type of vaccination – which is not on the plastic card-based security certificates.
However, when installing the application, only one QR code is displayed, below our name, number of shots, date of vaccination and the state of protection, the type of vaccination is not.

As per usual in Hungary for downloading and using this app is hideously complicated, involving several layers of bureaucracy. First you have to register but to do that you need a Gateway number. To get a Gateway number you have to visit a government office in person and fill out paper forms (so much for hi tech apps) and so it goes on. Another omnishambles. Other countries make it easy for the end user, so why is everything so unnecessarily complicated here? This nonsense is sure to put people off using the app simply because of the hoops you have to go through to download the wretched thing.
Once you have a Gateway card from a Kormányablak office it is not so difficult to download the app to your phone, register online with a computer and do the necessary to get the electronic Vaccination Certificate on your phone. You need to have a Hungarian ID card first; then you need some patience and persistence to work through the registration processes on your computer and on your phone. The more serious problem is that the Certificate is not saved in your phone. My wife doesn’t use mobile internet, only WiFi. We learned today that if you don’t have mobile internet and the place you go to doesn’t have WiFi then you are screwed – you can’t show them the electronic Certificate. By the way, it is strictly one phone, one person, one App. We were both double vaccinated ages ago and we are still waiting for the plastic Immunity Certificate cards. We were promised that we will get our plastic Immuniry Cards next week … otherwise it will be another trip to the Kormányablak office.
